it would instead take the reader to the respective article in the (FeedPortal pages) on the siteWanted to confirm that I understand correctly. Would appreciate some elaboration. Because FP will basically contain link to external site, do you mean that on clicking a heading in FP, the visitor should not leave the site, but rather the link should open in a wrapper ?

Customization suggestion 1 Month, 3 Weeks ago
Hi,
I would like to suggest customizing a product such as the Google News Ticker (JED listing: extensions.joomla.org/extensions/externa.../news-channels/10981)to make it work with Feed Portal.....

So instead of displaying headlines which when clicked will take the reader to another website (albeit via a new window), it would instead take the reader to the respective article in the (FeedPortal pages) on the site.....
Please please please - this would be so brilliant!!, and I think would really compliment FeedPortal (I'd happily pay for it, it doesn't have to be a free add-on to FP)

Regards, KB

Opening in a wrapper wasn't what I mean, but even that would be better than the visitor leaving the site.....

What I had in mind was that it would take you to the article in the FeedPortal pages- I'll explain:

The "Google News Ticker" module (or similar product)is pulling the ticker text it displays from article titles gathered from a variety of sources feeds & which I imagine are configured in the module's back end settings..... so probably something like RSS Feed 1: firstlink.com, RSS Feed 2: secondlink.com and so on.

What I'd like is if the same type of ticker module was able to interact with Feed Portal,& was able to somehow grab the headlines from the various feeds already listed within Feed Portal & display them (....so I wouldn't need to list any RSS Feed URLs in the module either - this not only saves the webmaster work but feed URLs can change in time - so it's simply install & off you go...!!) but also instead of taking the visitor to another site it instead directs them to the respective article/page on my site to read it, either the full article or within a list... (perhaps it could be done by the module being able to "see" all of the feeds listed in FP, & then the webmaster has to put in a range of keywords into the module - the module then searches the Feeds at random intervals for any articles containing the keywords, & then it displays only these keyword-specific titles etc (but it also knows where the title is from & so if clicked, it sends the visitor to the Joomla page where that particular title is displayed ....so a BBC News article heading, if clicked would take my visitor off to the BBC News page on my site & (preferably) to the part of the page where that particular story was displayed (so like using anchor text.... - an easy way to do this might be to display all the ticker-text headline-articles at the top of all pages, so if clicked it just needs to go to the top of the page.....)

Come to think of it, the keyword-finding feature would also be an excellent addition to Feed Portal component too..... (plus don't forget the rel=nofollow attribute in the links suggested earlier and pretty feeds module to work with FP too.).

I'd also like it if FP component could open the "Read More" links in an iframe or popup....... (so many ideas, so little time!!!)

Cheers, KB

a BBC News article heading, if clicked would take my visitor off to the BBC News page on my siteThis will be possible; module development already under way. Added in to-do.& (preferably) to the part of the page where that particular story was displayedThis will not be possible.if FP component could open the "Read More" links in an iframe or popupAdded in to-do - this will be the first update.
